About the bookshop

The Medical Society Bookshop was established by the Sydney University Medical Society Council in 1949 on the main campus of The University of Sydney as a not-for-profit, student-owned and operated bookshop. Its establishment preceded the Co-op Bookshop by nine years, and for forty years it was managed by Mrs Sheila Nicholas AO (Mrs. Nick, 1913 – 2004).

From the mid–1990s, the bookshop extended its services from predominantly just medical students/doctors in Sydney to include many other health professionals across Australia and New Zealand, thereby necessitating the opening of another major retail shop in Westmead Hospital. Today, while we remain a not-for-profit and student-owned bookshop, we are now supported by a team of full-time professional staff dedicated to providing the best medical information services available in the country.

In addition to offering information in hard-copy and electronic formats, our All Things Medical business also provides publishing, printing, marketing and distribution services for local, US and UK publishers and professional organisations looking to extend their reach across Australia and New Zealand.
